Getting Started
Get Started Today!
If you are serious about losing weight, the first thing you need to do, is get started.
One of the questions I get asked almost daily is, “I always seem to fail at weight loss.
I always start strong but after a week I am drawn right back to the potato chips, and
french fries.” “How do I stay on track with my weight loss goals when it is SO HARD to
stick with it. I always seem to end up going right back to eating burgers and fries
and never stick with ANY weight loss plan.” This question is SOO common from people
who are trying to lose weight and honestly, I can’t answer it. What motivated me to
finally get in great shape and actually stick with my weight loss goals will be different
then what will motivate you. Motivation is personal for each of us. What I can tell you
is what finally motivated me to actually get started and most importantly STICK WITH IT
to achieve my weight loss goals.
Why I Became Motivated For Weight Loss.
1. One day I went to pick my daughter up from school when she was in fourth grade.
She and a friend had been in an argument. I don’t recall what the argument was
about, but what I do remember is the last words her friend had said to her, and they
upset my daughter very much. What did her friend say? “Well, at least my mom isn’t fat
like your mom!” My daughter was confused – “Mommy you aren’t fat! Why did she say that?”
But I was, and when you hear the truth from a little kid, well it HURTS because YOU
know it’s true.
2. Seeing pictures of myself at my high school reunion – “I remember looking at some
pictures with a long time friend and seeing a the back view of a rather large and
fat woman I didn’t recognize. I asked my friend, “Whose that woman?” It was me!
3. After hearing from a little kid that I was fat, and actually seeing a picture of myself
I decided I would start jogging. When I first started I only managed to go about 4 houses
down the block before I was completely out of breath!
Needless to say, these were the events in my life that finally opened my eyes and
helped me see the truth – I was fat and needed to lose weight badly. It was so easy
to ignore before, even though my Doctor, and even my Husband (ouch) had told me
that I need to lose weight. Eventually the truth hit me like a brick wall and there was no
hiding from it. I was fat, and I was ready to change.
You will never be able to lose weight if you are doing it for someone else, or because
it FEELS like you should. I feel bad saying this, but if you truly want to succeed,
you have to motivate yourself, and the desire to change has to come from deep
inside you. Honestly, losing weight is a tough process, and in the end the only person
who will be there for you, is YOU.
Have you gotten to the point where you are ready and motivated to give everything you
have to achieve you weight loss goal? Getting started with weight loss is the hardest part,
well it’s all hard… but the best thing you can do is take baby steps, I once heard someone
say, “How do you eat and elephant?” The answer is “One bite at a time.” With every little
step you take, you are that much closer to achieving your goal. Remember to just take baby
step because baby steps turn into giant leaps very quickly.
